Coffee with a Purpose: Supporting OWL's Wildlife Rehabilitation

Spirit Bear Coffee Company is committed to environmental awareness and social initiatives, and as a part of this commitment, we are proud to support the Orphaned Wildlife Rehabilitation Society (OWL). OWL is a registered non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and releasing injured and orphaned raptors, while also educating the public on their importance and conservation.

We are honoured to serve coffee with a purpose to support their mission of caring for these incredible animals.

How OWL Supports Wildlife Rehabilitation

Raptors are birds of prey such as hawks, eagles, falcons, osprey, and vultures. These birds all have a hooked beak, sharp talons, keen eyesight, and eat a carnivorous diet. Although these birds are higher on the food-chain, they suffer from external, usually human caused, stressors. High on this list are cats, electrocution, entanglement, habitat loss, getting hit by vehicles, intra/interspecies fighting, orphaning, lead poisoning, rat poison, and window/mirror collisions. Most raptors that come to OWL are there due to human-caused injuries and issues.

While not all raptors successfully complete rehab, the ones that remain behind aid their kind by educating the public or fostering orphans. The fostering of orphans is important because it prevents young raptors from imprinting on humans which would be detrimental to their return to the wild. These resident raptors are available for in-school educational visits and for public viewing at events such as the OWL Open House.

Join Spirit Bear Coffee Company at OWL's Open House

Spirit Bear Coffee Company is proud to be providing coffee service at the OWL Open House taking place on May 6th & 7th, 2023 from 10am to 3pm. All proceeds from coffee will be going directly back to OWL to help them provide amazing and integral care for these incredible animals.

This event will feature:

Raptor talk at 11am
Raptor release at 1pm
Bird meet & greets
Raffle fundraiser
Kids games & guest exhibitors
Food trucks

Free parking will be available by the Boundary Bay Airport North Lot on Churchill St (signs will be posted). A wheelchair accessible shuttle bus will also be provided to and from OWL. No RSVP necessary. Entry is free, but donations are suggested & greatly appreciated. Please leave your dogs at home!

We’re also thrilled to announce that for the month of March we held a fundraiser where proceeds from our sales of Eagle Medium Roast, Raven Espresso, and Thunderbird Dark French Roast were put aside for OWL. In total we raised $600!
